What is a DSE Assessment?

A DSE assessment is an evaluation of the ergonomic setup and working conditions related to the use of computer or display screen equipment in the workplace.  It is designed to identify and mitigate potential risks to the health and well-being of employees who spend extended periods working with screens. Factors such as workstation layout, chair and desk ergonomics, screen positioning and lighting are checked to ensure they comply with ergonomic guidelines.

By conducting a DSE assessment, employers aim to promote a comfortable and safe working environment, reducing the risk of musculoskeletal problems and other health issues associated with prolonged screen use.

Under The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, a DSE user requires a DSE assessment when either a new user starts work, a workstation is set-up or an existing workstation is changed.
